No último Outubro, em Nova York, houve o evento Mipad, que elege os Afrodescendentes Mais Influentes. O carioca Renê Silva de 24 anos foi premiado por ter narrado a ocupação policial do Complexo do Alemão em 2010. Ele é morador do bairro e engajado no projeto social Voz das Comunidades.
