Mini Motivation #48 - Psst!! Do you have stupid people in your life?

in #psychology7 years ago

Now, before you go saying "Mav! How can you call people stupid? That's rude!", hear me out.

Seriously, you're telling me that spark of a thought has never crossed your mind? You're honestly saying even for a split second, that label did not jump to mind when someone around you did something, well, stupid?

It's not about us labelling them; that's not what we're gonna talk about. It's more about you being conscious spending too much time with them.

Here's the truth: if you spend too much them with stupid people in your life, it's gonna affect you big time too. The principle of taking-your-five-closest-friends'-salary-and-averaging-out-equals-your-salary, or birds of the feather flocks together applies really well here.

Family members aside (yup, it runs in the family too unfortunately), for your own growth and well-being, you have to switch up your friends. I don't know you're reasons. You may be sentimental, or it could be sympathetic, or worst, self-assurance, but deep down, you know it's affecting you.

Oh yeah, about the self-assurance part, here's where the kicker question comes in:

"Do you keep them around because it makes you feel superior?"

Mini Motivation is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3 minute reads.

From Motivation, we gain Inspiration. From Inspiration, we achieve Momentum. And the rest, they say, is history.

Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.

Oh it did? Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)

Stay awesome!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

  • Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
  • Upvote (like) other people contents
  • Comment on other people's posts
  • Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome

It hurt a lot and turned ugly, but I let my group of closest friends of 13 years go. They are not technically stupid, just brainwashed and haven't grown as people. For some reason, their egos inflated while their sense of self diminished.

I became friends with them specifically because they used to be the opposite of what they had become.

Now I'm free and it feels good man.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah, it kinda suck sometimes when you're around others who are not really growth-centric.

wow! I did like the kick question. leaving the punchline for last. 🤜🏼

I ask myself that question a lot too. Makes you really evaluate yourself, not your friends.

Oh gosh, I had some flashbacks about the st*pid people that I have encountered, now that includes myself too, at certain points of my life. I have been decluttering my Facebook friends when I have come to a point of realization that I need to set some healthy boundaries. :D Thanks for doing this, @maverickfoo!

Oh, you're so right about the "decluttering" your Facebook friends, although my word would be "disassociation". Sometimes people will look through your friends list and go like "Way, you're friends with this idiot ah?"

HAHAHAHAAA!!! What a way to put it though. :D

I would say - Lack of Common Sense - maybe because of something that "they" put into the vaccines nowadays (might be the reason why we have this Gen X, Gen Y, Gen Z.....)

Muahahaha! That's a good one. Because the other generation is called BabyBoomers, and we are probably known as batch X, Y or Z in some scientists' lab.

Welcome! Have a nice weekend!

I totally agree, we are surrounded by sorry to say stupid people and like you said, we have to distance ourselves from them or else we will be absorbed into their stupid acts and thinking. Thank you for sharing @maverickfoo 👍

Got blacklist ah? Haha.

Have a nice weekend Bro!

Yup, its inside my brain, everytime I saw these people, I'll go the other way round. 😂
