Life Lesson - The Donkey Owner and A Thief

in #psychology7 years ago

A man was on his way to his village after buying a donkey from a seller at the local market. He was so happy that he is now a proud owner of his very own donkey, that can help him with his every day works as a woodcutter. He was getting a bit tired after walking such a long distance, that he decided to rest under a tree before continuing his journey home. He tied the donkey at the trunk of the tree and then fell asleep after a while.

A thief has been following the man and the donkey since they left the market, and the thief is looking for an opportunity to prise away the donkey. When the man fell asleep, that was the chance the thief has been waiting for. He cut loose the rope that tied the donkey to the tree, and then he walked away slowly, pulling the donkey by the rope behind him. Soon, the man woke up from his nap and panicked when he couldn't find the missing donkey. He looked everywhere and asked every person that he met if they have seen his missing donkey. Finally, he saw a man sitting by a well, so he approached the man not knowing that he was actually the thief who stole his donkey.

"Have you seen my missing donkey?", the man asked, but the thief just kept quiet and then suddenly started to cry. "Why are you crying?", asked the man. "My bag fell off from my waist and then into the well as I was trying to get water, if you can help me to retrieve it, I will give you half of the 100 gold coins inside the bag", said the thief. The desperate man thought that it will be an opportunity for him to get the rewards and buy a new donkey for himself, so he agreed. He took off his clothes and his sandals and used a rope to get down into the well and began to search for the bag. Meanwhile, the thief grabbed all of the man's clothes and belongings, before running away with it.

The moral of the story

Life is so cruel, there are times when we least expected it, our life and our happiness will be gone in just a matter of seconds. Sometimes we don't realize it until it is too late. When we are in deep trouble, we will be desperate to solve or ease the problem and are willing to do almost anything to solve it. Barring our lack of judgment due to desperation, somehow we might not realize that we are actually digging a deeper hole for ourselves instead of improving the situations.
