Psychopathy, is it our fault?

in #psychology6 years ago

Hello to everything again with a psychological post, this is about one of the most horrible disorders that can happen to a human being, although this is something that few like to talk and much less read but it is a reality psychopathy is an evil that has transformed society and the only way to combat it is to face it and not let it affect more.

What is psychopathy?

It is a mental disorder, characterized by making the affected person completely disconnect from his or her humanity, totally lacking in repentance and empathy for others.

Symptoms of psychopathy:

The symptoms of psychopathy vary depending on the case, here is a list of the most common:

  • Constant challenge of the rules.

  • Explosions of violence.

  • Absence of delusions or other signs of non-rational thinking.

  • Absence of nervousness or psychoneurotic manifestations.

  • Falsehood or insincerity.

  • Lack of remorse and shame.

  • Antisocial behaviour without a reason to justify it.

  • Poor judgment and difficulty learning from experience.

  • Generalized poverty in the main affective relationships.

  • Great verbal ability and superficial charm.

  • Excessive self-esteem.

  • Constant need for stimulation and a tendency to boredom.

  • Tendency to lie pathologically.

  • Malicious and manipulative behavior.

  • No guilt or remorse of any kind.

  • Frivolous affectivity, with a superficial emotional response.

  • Lack of empathy. Cruelty and insensitivity.

  • Parasitic lifestyle.

  • Lack of control over behavior.

  • History of behavioral problems since childhood.

  • Lack of realistic long-term goals.

  • Impulsive attitude.

How does it affect us?

As with any disease, psychopathy affects society both directly and indirectly, since being a mental illness is difficult to diagnose, it always has a great impact on society because many times psychopaths end up being serial killers or dangerous criminals. I don't think that society is bad in itself, but I am sure that it has things to improve, since being one of the causes of this problem, it may play a determining role in combating this disease.

What can we do about it?

  • Talking: Most cases of psychopathy develop in childhood and adolescence if you notice an abnormal behavior in a relative or acquaintance, the best thing to do is to convince the parents that they should receive a psychological examination, many times the parents are the ones who protect the psychopath the most, since by convincing themselves that their child is only different they indirectly help their illness progress.

  • Keep us informed: However unpleasant and uncomfortable it may be, we must be aware of what this disease is capable of doing and how it can manifest itself so that we can be aware of its progress and see how it is presented.

  • As parents or as people in general, the last thing we want is to think that our child or a relative of ours has this disease is something completely normal but we must keep in mind that in doing this we become victims of fear, the only power that psychopathy has is fear if we stop being afraid and act when it is due we will be one step closer to ending this disease.

Measures to be taken:

If your child or a relative has symptoms of psychopathy, here are some steps you can take:

  • Determine how severe the illness is: If your child or relative has symptoms, determine from what age this began and what actions the psychopath who has attracted attention has taken.

  • Performing a psychological examination: It is the only way to ensure that the patient has the disease if so, should be taken immediately to a psychological treatment center where he or she will receive the necessary help.

  • Keep an eye on him: Psychopaths are addicted to control when you feel that something is not in their control, their first action is to eliminate it, so be careful when he receives the news that he should go to a psychiatric center, as they usually do not react well to this news.

  • Don't be afraid: Although I said it before I stress it again, there is no need to be afraid, even though they are potential monsters, they are still sick human beings, so the last step to take will be to stop being afraid because it will be the only way to get out of the psychopath's control and see things more clearly.

Reactions of parents to Psychopathy:

The parents are largely responsible for the actions of the psychopaths, as their way of reacting to this influences the psychopath quite a bit, each parent reacts in a different way here the most common:

  • Chatting: This is the most common reaction, to try to dialogue with the sick person to understand the seriousness of their actions, unfortunately in many cases this is useless because they lack remorse and emotional emotions are unable to understand.

  • Punishment: This is the second most common reaction, which is for parents to scold the psychopath.
When he does wrong, it often causes anger in the sick person and makes his condition even worse.

  • Specialist: Often performed when the child performs a serious action, it consists of taking the psychopath to a specialist often on the recommendation of someone other than the parents, it is better to do this when the child is 4 years old, because the longer you wait, the greater the chance that this disease will worsen.

  • Detention: Many times, psychopaths commit atrocious acts and there are specialized clinics to control them in order to help you control your illness, but if you have committed a crime, the law is prepared to deal with it. If you are a minor, you will be sentenced to life imprisonment or the death penalty, and if you are an adult you will be tried as such, depending on the gravity of the crime.

  • Denial: Possibly the most common reaction of parents to seeing their children appear to have this disease in childhood and adolescence, if parents ignore the symptoms not only jeopardize their safety but also all those close to them. No parent wants to think that this happens to their child, but unfortunately there have been many cases in which the psychopath has known how to manipulate the authority figure so that he can continue to do as he pleases.

Profile of the Psychopath:

  • Manipulation: Lacking empathy or any other affective emotion, they learn to fake these feelings by manipulating their parents and authority figures, they also learn to manipulate people close to them by making them dependent on them to do their will, so that they remain unpunished.

  • Compulsive liar: Because he lacks remorse or guilt, he has no qualms about lying and deceiving his parents and authority figures and often masks his lies with a false feeling, becoming a great actor capable of deceiving everyone around him.

  • Natural charm: Whether it's their intelligence or their physical appearance, psychopaths often have a superficial charm that keeps people around them from seeing their true nature until it's too late.

  • Brilliant mind: Most psychopaths possess above-average intelligence, making them dangerous criminals who, although they are above average criminals, are not impossible to catch, even if very difficult.

  • Prone to outbursts of anger: Lacking affective emotions, the only emotion left is anger, often attributed by parents as temper tantrums, but then this changes because anger can quickly become dangerous.

Conclusion:

Although psychopaths are something you have to be careful with, that's not why you should be alarmed if you present some of the characteristics described here is not a reason to be alarmed on the contrary be happy because if you are afraid of this means that you do not suffer from the disease, the world is full of people so that we do not see them makes it even more frightening but I hope that this post is informed and serves as a flashlight to light a sea of darkness, I hope you liked my post, do not forget to vote and leave your comment until next time.
