Words are to the soul what food is to the body. Just as our body develops on good food, our soul develops on good words.
Now, we know that good food is not necessarily food that is delicious. Good food is food that is good for our health. In the same way, good words are not necessarily words that are sweet to hear but words that are crucial to our maturity. It's interesting how many of us are careful to eat healthy food but are not careful to feed our soul with its good food. Have you fed your soul today? What is the souls good food, anyway? Truth, encouraging words and relevant knowledge. And as you can rightly guess: lies, unedifying words, and irreverent information are bad food for our soul. Bad food is poisonous to our soul. In other words, it destroys our soul. Occasionally, we have to detox our soul of its germs. We have to unlearn the bad things we have learnt. True education is two fold. It is not only the discovery of truths, it is also the discarding of lies.
We must not only be learning good things, we must also be unlearning the bad. We don't often focus on what we need to unlearn but that is as important as what we are learning. If I should ask you to tell me what you learnt last year, I am sure you will impress me with many things. But tell me: what did you unlearn last year? Be unlearning! #MalagasyProverb
