PROSEWRITING: gods' curses
Days passed by and many things had happened; Qyurt was unconscious and his army’s morale was not in good condition. After the first battle, the Vile army had been planning series of attacks to be launched on the Army of the West. General Weyt didn’t expect much from the low-lying morale of the army. “If General can just wake up, we will be able to fight and impact a great damage if not win. We might as well be forever forgotten in history if we try any rash decision now. What are the heavens doing? Are the gods only watching or are they still in their dining-like meeting room debating on what to do next?” Weyt said.
“The army has started their movement, Sir.” The chief scout announced
“How far are they from here?” Weyt questioned
“Well, Sir, I believe their distance is less than 10km.”
“As we have scouted them, they are marching in for war; they wants to settle somewhere closer; they must be ready with all their plans”
“Tell the Left General to prepare the soldiers for war”
“Sir, are we going to strike them first?”
“I believe if we can bring out the best team and attack the Vile Army before they attack us, it may help our morale a little bit. All we need is just some men to lure some of their men out and then we can just attack those men fully and cut off their heads for hanging in our camp”
“I believe this will help us a little Sir.” The Right general said smirking.
“Sir, a messenger has brought a message from His majesty.” A soldier announced.
“Let them in” Weyt announced in a state of anxiety
“We bid you greetings General.”
“What is His majesty’s message?”
“His majesty is deeply concerned about the health of General Qyurt and he is also sad that the neighbouring tribes have refused to help us in this war. His majesty has commanded us to tell you that you should retreat after three sunrises if there’s no way of winning for us”
“This is a difficult situation for us; if we turn back, the Vile Army will chase us down and kill all of us. If we fight, we will lose. Our horses are not in their good conditions neither our foods nor soldiers.” Weyt said sadly
“The food storage is burning sir, we are in doom sir.” A soldier announced out.
“The gods have really abandoned us, it’s now left to us decide our fate for ourselves. We die and the gods are just ready to throw us in hell.” Another statement from Weyt.
“But I think we should rather be laughing in hell than sitting down in some haggy heavens with the folks that abandoned us on earth.” General Qyurt said in a tired tone.
“We’ve been blessed, we’ve been blessed, and our Hero has woken up. Please announce to all the men that General Qyurt is back alive. How are you doing Your Highness? Are you really back for us?” Weyt said dancing around heavily.
“Yes General, I’ve been to the hell and I can see us smiling there. Announce to all the soldiers that there will be feast tonight and we will be launching our first attack the next moonlight. Tell them it will be fun throughout this night and please do prepare our mobile suicide force for their mission tomorrow night. General, you really tried a lot for the army”
“I’ve not done much your highness”
“You’ve kept the whole army living in my absence, I must thank you brother. In few days time, this ground will turn to hell, I plan on making it the last battle and that will be the end of 5 years war. We must really ignore the gods and show them we can do things our way.”
At the night, the Army of the West dined and wined and many did things like it would be the end. This clearly indicated that they would be fighting the war. General Qyurt played with the army and they all feasted with the limited foods available for them.
After three sunrises, both sides were on the battle ground facing each other. General Qyurt had already launch series of raids on the Vile Army camp and one could tell on the battlefield that their morale were low and they were not really well.
“Hear me O brothers, we are all here on the battlefield because our so-called gods has abandoned us and we are faced by the enemy. But I can gladly tell you that I prefer to die in hell and sit in heavens with these so-called gods. Who is ready to march to hell with me?”
There was roar from the crowd and you could tell that these soldiers were in their high spirit. Qyurt sang their anthem and many joined him singing. The soldiers were ready for battle and waiting for command to attack. It’s either a win for them or they lose because even though the Vile Army’s morale was low but their equipments and facilities were the best one could have ever seen. They were also ready to launch their attack and they knew they had chance at the war.
Both soldiers advanced forward and the war started. They were blood-spills, wails, cries and dead bodies as well as injured ones on the battlefield. One could never tell which team was winning but General Qyurt advanced forward and General Weyt followed him. They went and attacked the Vile Army’s leader, it was in this process that General Qyurt mistakenly struck General Weyt at the left side of the tommy. Even though it wasn’t deep, it was a great one that incurred rage into General Qyurt. He jumped high and bounce back pointing his sword toward the Leader’s head; he struck him and the Leader was killed. He quickly tend to Weyt who had been bleeding so much.
They Army of the West was winning the war but suddenly it rained so hard. The rain wasn’t just normal rain, it was an acidic rain. Soldiers couldn’t grab their shields but many ran and protected Generals Qyurt and Weyt with their bodies. It rained heavily for 5 hours and soldiers on the battlefield died inside this harsh rain. During this period, General Weyt who couldn’t hold his own pain died and that was left on the battlefield were weapons, dead bodies and General Qyurt, who was alive but affected a little bit by the rain. He made a long and deep cry.
“You gods have played tricks on us, you want us in hell and we are glad to go to hell not because you want us there but because we are proud we made it there without your help. You’ve forsaken us and I curse this ground. I curse you gods and you shall not interfere in my matters and that of my generations. Wait for me; I am coming to join my soldiers in hell.”
He carried the body of General Weyt and rode as fast as possible. He couldn’t tend to his own burns but he reached the gates of his city and died in front of that gate carrying Weyt in his own hands.
Did the gods forsake them? Who knows what tricks the gods played there? It was indeed a battle to remember, a great war in history and one of the harshest thing people wrote down as gods’ curse.
