Does Prophecy Realy Matter?

Does it matter that Yahweh promises to prepare His people with signs of the times if the very people who claim to be His refuse to believe that there are signs let alone that the signs are the signs of the times as promised?.... or if they refuse to study them? I mean, after all, this is America, that can't happen here!
