What should I expect from a production service company?

I’m producing a short film that will be shot entirely in Italy. I’m handling the creative and direction, but I need local support for gear, permits, crew, and logistics. I’ve been told to look for a production service company in Italy that can take care of the groundwork. How involved are these companies usually? Do they only provide technical help, or can they help with location scouting, casting, and schedules too?

A good production service company in Italy will cover all of that. They act as your local partner, making sure everything runs smoothly on the ground while you focus on the creative side. That includes crew hiring, location scouting, equipment rental, casting, transport, accommodation, and managing the shooting schedule. What’s your timeframe? Do you already have locations in mind?

We’re planning a two-week shoot in Tuscany and Rome. I have a few reference locations, but nothing booked yet. Also, I’ll need bilingual crew since not all of our team speaks Italian. Is that something these service companies usually provide too?

Yes, most experienced Production service company in Italy will provide bilingual fixers and crew who can bridge the gap between your team and local vendors. They’ll also help you avoid common pitfalls like slow permits or miscommunications. If your schedule is tight, having a local production service company is essential—they’ll know how to prioritize tasks, recommend local vendors, and make the whole process more efficient. It's the best way to keep your shoot on track without surprises.
