We are our habits

Getting into the habit of practicing an instrument everyday or exercising makes us who we are. Mentally and physically, i like to walk and swim, when i do either of those things, my mind gets to wander and ideas come up, sometimes positive sometimes negative. The mental chatter that goes on between my ears is best kept to myself. i learn things in my own way, i surround myself with books that i look at as my advisors. Having a learning disability growing up made me feel stupid. So i always felt that i had something to prove, to my parents, teachers and peers. Playing music has always been an escape for me and learning to play an instrument has challenged me everyday. The habit is so ingrained in me that i can't stand it when i don't have a guitar or a ukulele close to me. When i travel, i always bring a guitar and or the ukulele, for the past 15 years i have been writing songs and recording albums, So that habit is also deeply ingrained in me. I love coming up with a theme for an album and doing all the leg work and research required to finish it. I did 12 albums in 12 years as result of that habit. I am writing right now a bunch of songs while i am traveling. Knowing how your mind works and what your sore spots and what you need to work on, is so important in life. I have come to know myself really well over 58 years. So i am careful with the habits i have. Being healthy is the best habit, Being creative and always learning is what i focus on.
