A Single Seed: Right Where You Are
This past week has been a little crazy. Well, really crazy. For most of us, the world as we know it has completely changed for the time being. Working from home, kids not in school, events getting canceled, it's disrupted nearly every facet of our lives. Plans that were made are being put on hold, and we're all having to find ways to pivot to acclimate to this new way of life. With all of the change and uncertainty in the air, I think it's an important time to remind ourselves of a quote I heard from Rich Roll, a former lawyer turned Ironman champion who hosts an incredible podcast:
"Find yourself where your feet find themselves."
If I would have asked any one of you 31 days ago if you would expect to be in the position you're currently in, I can almost guarantee the answer would be no. We've all had to roll with the punches, and the unprecedented shift in global society has made us all reflect on the micro choices we make on a day-to-day basis. But that's okay. We may not be where we thought we'd be, or doing the things we thought we'd be doing, but we're still here. Still surviving, living, and growing, despite the turmoil around us. Our feet are almost certainly in uncharted territory, but there's beauty in the chaos.
I think one positive of the societal changes is the pause it's made many people take. Gone are the busy days of shoveling down food in our mouths to make it out the door in time to be at work by a certain hour. Rushing to get the kids ready for sports while not being able to pause and enjoy the time with them is no longer needed. In place of the chaos, there's stillness. There's peace. Time to reflect, and to cherish moments spent with our loved ones. It's really a blessing in disguise, and a poignant reminder to keep close to those who really matter.
We'll get through this. And eventually, life will return back to normal. But when it does, I hope we can remember what these moments of stillness felt like, and how we can cultivate them in our everyday lives. When it comes to action, sometimes less really is more.
"A Single Seed" is my attempt to get out one idea every day that I've learned or accumulated over the years, with the hope that it may stick in someone else's memory bank as well. The idea may be related to fitness, business, life, or philosophy, but I think you'll find that many can change domains if you wish them to. With each seed planted, a new life awaits.
