In order to find out how efficient different forms of power production in the US are, I've used government-provided 2018 numbers, to produce the data showing how many employees it takes to produce 1 billion kilowatthours, per sector.

  • Nuclear -

72146 Total Employees
807 billion kWh produced
19.4% of total US power
89 employees to produce 1 billion kWh

  • Coal -

161033 Total Employees
1146 billion kWh produced
27.5% of total US power
141 employees to produce 1 billion kWh

  • Hydro -

66448 Total Employees
293 billion kWh produced
7% of total US power
227 employees to produce 1 billion kWh

  • Natural Gas -

383319 Total Employees
1469 billion kWh produced
35.2% of total US power
262 employees to produce 1 billion kWh

  • Wind -

111166 Total Employees
273 billion kWh produced
6.5% of total US power
407 employees to produce 1 billion kWh

  • Solar -

334992 Total Employees (92k part time)
64 billion kWh produced
1.5% of total US power
3787(FT) to 4510(FT+50% output PT) employees to produce 1 billion kWh

There are other alternative forms of energy production that are not listed, due to the lack of data.

That's it! Enjoy!
