IF I COULD SOLVE ONE WORLD'S PROBLEM
I was wondering what issues our world is facing today. Then, I realized that several major challenges we are facing in the global world are pandemic, climate change, poverty, child labor, human trafficking, cybercrime, war, corruption, etc.
If I could find solutions to any of the problems, what would the problem possibly be? That would be poverty.
Why Is It Important To Rise Against Poverty?
This question is often ignored, but it's a vital one to address. Poverty has a severe effect on those who fall within its grasp. Some of its effects include:
Homelessness
Intense poverty is inextricably connected to high levels of homelessness and food insecurity. Unable to provide essentials like food, education, good amenities, and more can subject one's family to greater risk.
Poor Health
Poverty leads to many health risks, including a high hypertension rate, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, infant mortality, undernutrition, asthma, lead poisoning, dental problems, and lots more.
Poor Education
There's a positive correlation between poverty and low academic performance. Pupils exposed to deepening poverty might have adverse behavior; poor cognitive development, poverty of speech, and inability to manage stress.
In poor locations, those children tend to skip school because they will have to work to get a little more income for their families.
Crime
Poverty hinders the availability of economic opportunities. When people lack economic opportunity, impoverishment starts knocking at the door, which can indeed lead to crime.
Global unemployment is at a high rate. A large number of people around the world are unemployed. When people are jobless, they will have to do whatever it takes to survive.
Psychological Warfare
Negative psychological thought is also one of the effects caused by poverty. When children are exposed to severe poverty, they exhibit behavioral and emotional issues such as impulsiveness, aggression, difficulty getting along with peers, conduct, and hyperactivity disorders.
Parents may also face, due to poverty, symptoms like stress and depression. Many marriages don't last long, which may jeopardize the chances of the children's success.
Growing Up In Impoverished Neighborhoods
Poor children are most likely to grow up in impoverished neighborhoods; neighborhoods with a high level of poverty, which can make those children have bad behavioral and social manners
Direct or indirect exposure to violence in such neighborhoods is a factor that can lead to adverse developmental outcomes in those children.
Poverty Affects Us All
Poverty can greatly cause a host of other problems in society. Young children who suffer poverty's effects are not only the victims. When they grow up and don't survive as adults, society pays the price: business owners barely find trustworthy workers to hire, citizens can't walk freely on the street, influential people hire more guards for their safety, fraudulent acts, and a whole lot of societal issues are caused.
This is evident in our society today, where there is a high rate of internet fraud, kidnapping, insecurity, etc. These are the effects of poverty.
Conclusion
Poverty gives birth to a whole lot of today's world problems. So, if I could solve one of the problems, it would be poverty. Because if poverty can be solved, a host of today's world problems will indeed be controlled.
