A nova in the heavens.

We have a nova in the sky, the explosion of a star that has become 4 million times brighter than the original brightness of the star, on June 18 that nova had reached an apparent magnitude of plus 5.7, which makes it enter the limit to be visible to the naked eye.

The Nova is called V462 Lupi because it appears in the constellation of Lupus located in the southern hemisphere, although at this time of year it can be seen in the northern hemisphere at least a little, for example, in Europe you can see the northern part of this constellation, which is located between the legs of the constellation of Scorpio and almost joined by the constellation of Centaurus.

It is recommended to view the Nova if possible from a clear area of dark skies and equipped with a telescope and binoculars since the glow will be reduced in the coming days. Astronomer Yusuke Tampo of the South African Astronomical Observatory of the University of Cape Town analyzed the light emitted by this nova and determined that it is possibly a classic nova, it is a type of nova.

Novas differ from supernovae in their origin and power. Obviously, a supernova is more powerful, which is why it is super and is capable of destroying the star and everything that surrounds it, but novae are less powerful and the star or its core can survive.

Classic novae like V462 Lupi occur in a specific type of binary system, where there is a normal star and a white dwarf. A white dwarf is the dense and hot remnant of a star that, once its nuclear fusion fuel has been exhausted, expels its outer layers and ends up concentrating a nucleus that is roughly the size of the Earth. That would be the white dwarf. By the way, it is something that will happen to our sun when it dies.

In this system, the white dwarf is much denser than its companion normal star, so the gravity of the white dwarf steals material from the normal star, until the white dwarf exceeds a pressure limit that causes it to explode. The novae can also be recurrent, for example, for about 15 months astronomers have been waiting for the explosion of the Coronae Borealis nova, the shining star that illuminates our skies every 80 years or so because you see, it is being delayed. 15 months, it seems that she is late for her appointment but when she does we will see her look much more intensely than this one that is in the news now and that no one expected by the way.

In this new and unexpected case we have no reference to how far away it is, at least for now, but if we have reference to the distance at which it is from Coronae Borealis, it is about 3,000 light years away from us, so when you see the nova that will be brighter than the one I just told you about, it will mean that the photons ejected by the explosion of the star have reached your eyes after crossing about 3,000 light years away, at 300,000 km per second a cosmic ocean.

The photons that reach your eyes came from the explosion at the time when King Solomon ordered the construction of the temple in Jerusalem, certainly humans are very insignificant beings in the universe, but we have the power to be aware of the most colossal events that occur in it and that is one of the things that makes us lucky.
