Let's Talk About Impeachment

Ever since the Mueller report dropped, Democrats have been talking about impeachment, despite the fact that the report itself found no evidence of any Americans colluding with Russia. So where have the goalposts moved? Obstruction of justice. This past Friday, Senator, and presidential candidate, Elizabeth Warren called upon congress to impeach Trump.

My overall response to that is this: Are we really doing this? First, Nancy Pelosi is the decider on whether or not congress can start the impeachment proceedings, and last month, she herself said that it's "just not worth it". Republicans hold the senate majority so even if congress started with the proceedings, it would ultimately result in a failed impeachment, and may be the ribbon on the gift of a 2nd term the democrats have wrapped with the failed RussiaGate investigation. Even if we had a successful impeachment by some miracle, do we really want a Mike Pence presidency? Mike Pence is Trump without the mean tweets, and unlike Trump, actually knows what he's doing. I get that "no president is above the law", but are we really going to do an impeachment over an obstruction of an investigation into a crime that didn't happen? It's true he said on NBC that he fired James Comey over the Russia investigation, so you can make a case for it, but it's a weak case because in order to prove an obstruction, you have to prove intent. If he wasn't trying to hide a crime, most likely he fired Comey because "it's a made-up story".

I think the democrats could've made a better case for impeachment if they spent more of their time and energy over his emoluments violations, his war crimes, or the torturing, hell, impeach him because he wants to jail Julian Assange, which sets the precedent of jailing journalists (I'm no legal expert, but this definitely should be an impeachable offense). Instead they wasted so much time on this deflated conspiracy theory that he's somehow a Russian spy, the one crime he's not guilty of, and as a result any actual criticism may be undermined. It's the boy who cried wolf.

Ultimately, I think it would be better if the democrats just let him get voted out. The next election is a year and a half away, and once Trump gets voted out, I guarantee he will be indicted by the Southern District of NY on multiple financial crimes. Hear me now, quote me later.
