Kenyan politics,Africa
I had not been born in 1992. But I am in the know that in the wake to the 1992 General Election, which was the first election after President Moi in December 1991 at a KANU delegates meeting at Kasarani Stadium, repealed Section 2A of the constitution, thereby making Kenya a multi-party state, President Moi faced a stiff competition which was a strong wave that would have sent Moi into political oblivion
Television and printed media were awash with negative news against Mzee Moi. The President think tanks had to look for a solution. The solution was to have loyal journalist to twist the media and write great articles and news about the President. Bright graduates from Rift Valley and more so Kalenjin speaking graduates were picked and sent to Kenya School of Mass Communication for six months to be trained on Journalism skills then were released to the field to search for stories and write positive news about Mzee. Things cooled down and the President made an authoritative come back. This wasn't the only tactic applied by the President's team of course.
I watched last night NTV news and I also read today's Daily Nation. The prime news is ALL about NASA. Nothing good about the President and the Government. Perhaps it is about time for the President to make a move in order to subjugate the opposition
