Multiple states lack the ability to guarantee the accuracy of election outcomes in the event of a suspected breach. Five states — Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, New Jersey and Delaware — have no paper trails of votes. The other nine are in better shape, but still do not have all their counties’ machines spitting out a paper record. This is due to the direct recording electronic machines (DREs) these states use in some counties, which don’t cough up a paper copy of cast ballots.

My thoughts on this news

The entire election system in America needs to be changed, how can a country like America call itself a democracy when there are states that are not even able to guarantee if their vote count is correct. This is a broken system that needs to be changed as soon as possible, the electoral college is a complete failure that does not give equal voting power to all Americans, we need a ranked voting system similar to what other democratic countries have. These electronic voting systems some states use are too easy to hack and there is no way to verify if the votes were hacked/changed because there is no verification. The safest voting system to have is paper ballot because it cannot be hacked and when you have a paper trail the votes can always be easily recounted. Until our voting system changes there is just no way to know if your vote will count in some places in America.
