Spanish Government's actions says: Go fuck yourselves Catalonia!
Catalan government has scheduled a referendum on independence for the autonomous region for the 1st October. Spanish government, or more importantly the Spanish Constitutional court on 6th September, initmated that Catalonians could go fuck themselves!
Thousands of Catalonians take to the streets to peacefully protest the 'Fuck You'. Spanish government, through its sizable police force, double down and escalate tensions, with the authorities searching print houses and seizing referendum material, block websites, stop political meetings, Politicians get arrested, and leaders of the mass protests have been charged with sedition, a crime which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years imprisonment. So again, fuck you Catalonia!
The People of Catalonia don't just want to be an autonomous region of Spain ruled by its Government. They want to be completely independent from the Spanish government. They are trying to do this peacefully. On 21 September, more than 4,000 police officers were deployed to the autonomous region, with an order from the Spanish Government to “act in case the illegal referendum takes place”.
ETA killed more than 800 people and wounded thousands in more than 40 years of violence during the Basque fight for independence. Is this what the Spanish government wants for Catalan? Because those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable. - JFK
While we all know that violence NEVER solves societal issues there are always those that foolishly believe it does. I'm hoping like mad that all that transpires is peaceful.
Watching it on the news today filled me with sadness. The Spanish police are acting like terrorists. Free Catalonia
Spain government will do everything to close this referêndum, because if Catalonia is able to move ahed with its Independence ideals, next will be the Basque, then Galicia, it would destroy Spain!
Afterall Catalonia is the industrial and most productive region of Spain
I share your sentiment here Neil. It's sad to see a government respond to the will of the people with such force. As carlosdaniel noted in the comment above, Catalonia is a productive region and the establishment, as per usual, will do what is necessary to try and maintain its control over these people.
Business as usual for the Swamp creatures (it seems there are swamps all over the world that need cleaning!). I'm not surprised at all.
