I Am the Fly on Mike Pence's Head
There I was, minding my own business, chillin' near the stage with a great view of the podiums. The room buzzed with an almost palpable anticipation when Kamala and Mike took their places. The debate hosts had emphatically asked the audience not to interrupt and I had no intention of getting involved.
As one does, I simply wanted to be a fly-on-the-wall at an historic, unprecedented, critical pandemic event in these times. There are so many buzz words flying around in 2020 one can hardly keep up. Honestly, the murder hornet thing is giving all of us insects a bad name. But I digress.
Kamala was killing it - poised, prepared and patient. Mike was - not. Through his countless digressions, gas lighting attempts and blatant lies I stuck to my intention of not interrupting. It was difficult but I managed - until the Vice President of the United States denied systemic racism exists in America.
That. Was. It. To witness a white man tell a black woman systemic racism doesn't exist was too much. Before I knew what was happening, my wings were buzzing uncontrollably as though auto-pilot had engaged.
Plop! Within seconds I landed on one of the biggest piles of shit I've ever discovered. And let me tell you, the stench was foul even to a fly. Naturally, I added my own droppings to the mix. How could I not?
Now before you all accuse me of stealing Kamala's spotlight, I implore you to believe me when I say I wasn't seeking a trending hashtag on Twitter. Nor did I expect so many accounts to honor my own historic moment. But I will say, if this does anything to restore the good name of insects after the murder hornet fake news, I'll be happy.
