Trump Is Legitimate; Look Within for Why
Yay! Yet another time you'll read the word "Trump" before you die! (If you think this is cliché, this is still sadly making news cycles.)
Many people seriously believe that solely because of Russian-funded propaganda, the election was "hacked." In effect, many people are claiming that being exposed to disinformation can take away someone's free will and deligitimize someone's voting capacity.
How can we say that? Of course voters are irrational, but that has always been true, and irrationality ≠ illegitimacy. As Americans, we accept that people are capable of voting, and that they are capable of doing it irrationally. How do we justify the increasingly viscious shady political advertising every two years? We say that the voter should be able to hear multiple views, and the views can only inform. Sure, there's a law that says foreign governments can't campaign and powerful unnamed donors can, but what's difference?
How can we not expect foreign governments to want to influence us, and how can we Americans blame them for the ballots we collectively wrote? Can any of you honestly say that you have not been fundamentally changed by tribalism and relationships on social media? Can any of you honestly say that your views do not change based on new information you receive? (They really should.) If the Russians "hacked" the election, than we are a "hack" of ourselves, because it seems like they communicated with us the American way.
