Peaceful Monuments
The words traitor and patriot are attempts to measure someone based on the person or group speaking of them. Asking a certain person in the 1770s they may have responded that George Washington was the traitor and the Sir William Howe the patriot. When the colonies beat the British they didn’t occupy Britain, they prevented the British occupation of the new USA. It’s only when the winner occupies the loser that there are no or very few monuments to the losers (Japan and Germany). The surviving British went home and setup monuments of their own, not monuments of Americans. The North didn’t occupy the South after the American Civil War and left them to erect monuments of their own. Remove them privately and peacefully, but why not remove them all, It’s hard to find a monument to government that wasn’t created from some violent ideology. May all future monuments be of peaceful people.
