Why SIDS will remain in the third worldsteemCreated with Sketch.

There's alot of hubbub about the colonial masters and what they did to person of African and East Indian decent in small islands such as Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados etc. We take pleasure in blaming white men who lived hundreds of years ago for our current conditions today, so much so that such non sense is incorporated into tertiary level curriculum and even even further pushed through one sided creations such as dependency theory, which espouses the view that lager more developed states have designed the global market in such a way as to exclude these states. Nothing could be further from the Truth. The fact of the matter is tat much of the legislation in the global trade accords are designed to propel theses Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and their various sectors.

This forces us to seek answers to basic question....why haven't these countries reached first world status? why are services so difficult access? why is poverty, corruption, unemployment and crime on the rise yet salaries and living conditions have either remained the same or worsened over the years?

We have become so mentally impoverished that we can no longer function in a unified society. Its has become a grab for fiat fueled by the oppressive practices of the ruling class. It is not uncommon to see our politicians dining with Gangsters and Criminals whilst arresting or infringing on the rights of citizens who speak out against the atrocities of the ruling class. Just this week in Trinidad and Tobago a stalwart of the ruling political party was captured in a photo smiling with a gang leader she invited to her swearing in ceremony. Previous to that we had a Prime Minister from that same party host gang leaders at an upscale conference inclusive of meals and other amenities. All this whilst a citizen who voiced his opinion on crime is now facing jail time even after apologizing for his outburst brought on by the response of the PM to the recent gruesome murders of a 13 year old boy and his elderly caregiver.

We simply voice our outrage on social media then run with our tails between our legs and do nothing. We did not fight for our independence in the Caribbean with the exception of a few states. It was given to us as an economical decision by rulers of England. Instead of blaming the white man for slavery maybe we should thanks the 600,000 + white men who died in the civil war fighting for the freedom of slaves (both white and black). Maybe we should look at the fact that within one generation of becoming a country the United States changed the world by bringing fourth the Abolition of slavery. Let us be thankful and work with out white brethren instead of blaming them for our failure to come together stand up against tyrannical governments
