Getting Started on Pokemon Go

in #pokemon8 years ago (edited)

I thought for a very long time, what could I post on steemit, because I am terribad, when it comes to writing something long and nice to read.

Since this is my first post, don't hate me yet <3 (wait for a few more posts :D).

Anywhoo, everyone knows by now how popular the Pokemon Go game is right now, and I personally think it's crazy and overrated. Saying that, I started to play it a few days ago too, to keep my girlfriend company (her fault >.<>.<).

So, here is my quick introduction with some personal likes/dislikes about the game (I will possibly post more in depth guides/info later on).

Make sure that whenever you play this game, to check your surroundings, I keep seeing and reading about people getting into accidents or being on someone elses property, etc. Don't be daft, it's not worth getting hurt or fined over (unless it's Mewto :D).

The basic idea of the game is to catch many different pokemon ( o rly you might say - got to catch 'em all etc). and taking over gyms.

However it will be impossible to make all of your pokemon super strong, so try to focus by getting good CP (combat points) by evolving and great CP by using stardust on just 2-3 good quality pokemon.

Even though on a basic level pokemons who fight each other, the one with higher CP wins, the truth behind it is a lot more complicated. Each pokemon have different growth rates (attack, def, HP) and attributes (water, air, etc), but that's info for another post.

NB! Here's a fact, that I cannot verify myself, but seems to be true - you can also get Pikachu to start with, instead of the 3 pokemon you are offered after character creation - just don't pick one, and walk away, and Pikachu shows up.

So, after creating your character, you will be prompted to choose a team after hitting level 5 (Mystic, Valor, Instinct), and will be able to take over gyms after that. I don't think it makes a difference, which you choose, but don't quote me on that.

Depending on when you started, the gyms might be super difficult to attack, because of the CP/Level gaps.

Even if you do not win against all enemy pokemon in the gym, if you win against some of them (if there are at least 2 pokemon defending the gym), you will still earn XP and the gym level goes down slowly.

Levelling up gyms that belong to you or your team, works pretty much the same way - you win against your team pokemon and the gym XP goes up, and with each level, another pokemon can be posted to defend the gym.

Make sure to use better balls and Razz Berry to catch pokemon with high CP (the circle is not green but yellow-orange-red).

If you throw curve balls, or get a nice small circle, that also helps to catch pokemon, by keeping them in the ball more, and extra XP for good throws too of course, and who doesn't want XP.

For now I will leave you with info, what leveling up provides (Picture not made by me, but details are readily available everywhere).

If someone finds my info interesting/helpful/etc, I will post more later.
