Deep in Debt

Sometimes I feel so inept
I'm so deep in debt

you're probably think I'm speaking about money
No, I'm speaking of a different commodity
As different as sugar is from honey

Both are a treat
And both are sweet

But only one is made naturally
By the arduous effort of the worker bee

And just as magnificent as honey
So was the love of the woman who gave birth to me

I feel so inept
I'm so deep in debt

How do I repay the woman who carried me in her womb
for 9 long months her body was my room

Gave me oxygen and nutrition
Bared me until my fruition

Only to come out wailing at her
Ugly and blue
Loved me from the start
Even when I was new

I feel so inept
I'm so deep in debt

We grew up in a poor land
We had so little
But I never went hungry
Wasn't fat, but neither was I brittle

You brought me to America
All the way from Africa

You wanted me to have the opportunities that were robbed from you
Never let me go under what you went through

It's so unfair
Why should I have blessings you could never dare
I know from my deepest core
Had you been given what I had you would've soared

I feel so inept
I'm so deep in debt

Everything I have is yours
I always regret not being able to give you more

To provide me the best
You laid so much of your life to rest

I'll make a promise
To this vow I'll stay honest

I will live my life fully
Because I know truly
That's your ultimate goal for me

In everything I strive
I will keep your endeavors in mind

I will never forget your pain
nor the things from which you had to abstain

I feel so inept
I’m so deep in debt,

I will never forget

Sometimes I feel so inept
I'm so deep in debt

you're probably think I'm speaking about money
No, I'm speaking of a different commodity
As different as sugar is from honey
