The Picnic
The Picnic
I waited by the park bench
where you said we'd meet
after which
we'd go for a picnic
I brought snacks in a basket
and a book of poetry
I think the Sun laughed
through the trees
I was bored waiting
and set out the picnic blanket
where I sat
(I pinched a bit
of the cake you said
you liked)
People walked by
some with toddlers
others with dogs
I patted a playful
Alsatian pup
and later
a blond-haired tot
came by
and poked at my nose with
Cheese Curl fingers
I pulled a face at him
he pulled my hair -
then looked surprised
I waited
And I got hungry
And the Sun
stopped laughing
and put on his pajamas
and brushed his teeth
while Lady Moon blushed
in her silver dress
No one walked by anymore,
The cake dried-up, I threw it away
But the meatballs and little
sandwiches were edible still
so I took the basket home
and had a picnic on the floor,
I ate everything but the blanket -
I had no heart for poetry though.
Cool! I follow you.
