A Hippie’s 21st Century Prayer

Familiar security awaits us
When we come Home to the mansions…
All that is dear to us - sex love food
Children sleep flowers animals
Beauty, the wonders of diversity, spring mornings…
The ancestors welcome us
Who thought we were alone, forgiveness
The scent they breathe, love their gentle fire..

The prophets on their one-way road
Told us enjoy each day, be kind
Forgiving peaceful perfect,
That we reap what we sow…
They will not return.

What’s left, illusions planted by
Imaginative sorcerers,
Has curled humanity into impossible knots
- the Babel to end empathy -
As we vie for victory, some resin-cast
Exclusive fantasy,
To war in patterns,
Fibonacci paisleys of
Fire and carnage circling
In a vacuum of no-faith, only
Evil’s utter emptiness
The awful necessity of cruelty
The inevitability of misery
And despicable destruction
Of Home…

And indeed for those
Seduced by dual-natured deities
And who wander off into their Midas dreams hooking
Hostages with barbed, plagiarized passages, once-sacred words
From beyond time’s dictates,
Verses now tweaked for grandeur’s transient thrills,
For those First-who-shall-be-last,
The hell they threaten is their own dark underground mansion…

Let our Mother shake her
Snow-globe
While we huddle and marvel
At Her power to make insignificant
Our follies
Our very existence…
Let fruit boil on its trees
Let ice-melt
Drown cities…
Her adherence to duty
To protect, preserve and prosper
3rd from the Sun, at any cost…
Let Her rains and fires come, with them
Blue and teeming seas, crystal air,
Where future birds and trees can whisper
Beauty, harmlessness, innocence,

The human fossil layer
A fitting tomb for stewards of vanities,
Far from Home…
