I never thought I would see you like this.
Bed - ridden, limp, and almost lifeless.
My other half, the one with all the bliss.
Your smile was always bigger than everyone else.

Remember when we went fishing with Tracy and Jake.
You saved me from drowning when I fell into the lake.
How about our first trip to Atlanta.
You took me home after I passed out in the bar.

When I was in coma, you lived by my bedside.
When Drew proposed to me, you were by my side.
More than a friend, partner in every retreat.
Knew each others passwords and dirty secrets.

The doctors knew you wouldn't make it.
They told me to pull the plug.
"Wake up, Elaine. Please wake up.
Let's do it again, let's call their bluff".

NOW the priest is quoting something,
I'm staring at you, barely listening.
Family and friends occupy all the chairs,
Dressed in choice and once-in-a-lifetime wears.

A very solemn occasion.
A scene of profound passion.
Everything would have been so perfect.
If you weren't lying there in that casket.

"Wake up Elaine", I started to scream.
But my voice was strongly stuck within.
Dust to dust, you were lowered to the ground.
"Wake up Elaine, please wake up".
