Part 4 of A Piece of the Breadcrumb Trail: Poetry

The fragile essence that lay intimately
In my infancy had drifted off,
Gone forever I thought,
Lost in a tangle of broken memories
Shadowed by disease.
How naïve.
The silent ember of immutable eternals
Glows patiently underneath the ashy mess,
Simply waiting for the inevitable;
A tree will fall
Its timber turned to the most holiest task
Fueling the inexplicable presence.
Held ever so precariously in the few
Hands who learn, sense, understand
The importance of never allowing
It to extinguish,
For it to falter would undoubtly
Be the end of something great and beautiful.
Are we to be the generation that turns
Its back on the eternal
In favor for the seduction that
Seeps ever stronger towards us from
Every conceivable direction?
Stay strong and stay true,
The ember still glows,
The world still listens eagerly,
Like ears strained in the dark
Of an empty house when the wind
Disturbs the silent peace.
I pray head, to not only you but to me,
For this road is dark
And to many on it die on the side
Becoming nutrients for the looming trees.
