packed tight in a few square miles
topped by gleaming neo steel and glass towers
simultaneous calculations, computations, cogitations
complexities, simpler equations
comings, leavings, tubings, bussings
colliding, avoiding, approaching and hiding
some dwell along the murder mile
some elope in hope
some are doomed to be caught by the economic trap
some contort in dystopian zoetrope
some escape in drink, drugs and s&m
some keep their minds in mindful check
float along in blissful zen
10 million souls in constant flux
flocking, mocking, consuming, abusing
short fusing
bruising
exhibiting, ignoring, voyeuring
connecting, rejecting, ejecting, reflecting, genuflecting
dancing to the unknowable rhythm
punctuated by the all too familiar clock tower's gong

10 million voices competing to be heard
above the sirens 24/7, above the traffic, above 10 million others
he wants, she wants, they want
demand to command, take control, determine their own destinies
in constant battle with their angels who scream at their demons
who love their angels
10 million simultaneous sighs, inhales, exhales
minglings, mergings, grindings, writhings, remaining, brexiting
