Cold Nights And Dark Winters

Snow padded cobble stones
Crisp ice night air
An endless dark blanket
Thick with despair

A screech echoes out
Through a cold black night
A traveler hurry's on
weighed down by his fright

What creature under God
Could make such a sound
That sends chills through the bone
Lullaby's of the burial ground

Some siren of death, surely awaits
Some daemon, or wraith,
A thousand unseen ghouls
He is slipping in faith

To stop is to die, frost nips at his skin
He must carry on, push through the fear
Even if it must mean
Consequences severe

He nears the old graveyard
Shunned by the locals
And to his despair
Hears those inhuman vocals

The creature is close
Though it can not be seen
A desperate run
For the distant ravine

He doesn't look back
And he feels the pursuit
Of a terrible wrath
Evil he can not refute

Fingers grabbing his neck
From his lips, come a roar
The same horrid sound
He heard twice before
