Bipolar - My Friend. Poems from pain by Laura Bean #mentalhealth
I’ve seen mental illness
in all of its glory
Open your windows
let me tell you my story
My name’s bipolar
Full of stigma am I
I can hijack your mood
And you may not know why
It can take years to find me
Yet you know that i’m there
Sometimes years of denial
Wishing someone could care
By the time you find treatment
It all feels too late
The bonds have been broken
The loves turned to hate.
Any anger feels evil
Needing love feels like greed
The minds gate is bolted
And you’ll beg to be freed
I can send you too high though
Even my happiness can harm
The appearance of misery
replaced with confidence and charm
I can take all your being
And change who you are
Put you in self-destruct mode
I can take things quite far
Make people dislike you
Much beyond your control
I may force your emotions
But I cant change your soul
You can tame me with treatments
But im there until the end
Countless therapies and support groups
And on drugs you’ll depend
So if you’re blessed with my illness
Hold on with great steed
Because this journeys not easy
Until YOU get to lead
If you have me, you have me
You don’t get to choose
Don’t try to deny me
Because you’ll only lose
Just accept I’m an illness
One that’s not going to mend
So unless you work with me
I wont be your friend.
