The Faithful Widow

in #poetry7 years ago (edited)

She stood by his gravestone
On a warm, sunny day
Just him and her alone
In the middle of May-
Her hair so very gray-
With that same ring
On her frail left hand
She smiled, remembering
Her life with her husband
She kisses his picture frame,
Says, "I love you all the same."
It's fire never dulled
Never cheated, never sold
Never running weak or cold
All seventy years wed
Until one of them, dead
Fathfully and forever
A bond death cannot hide,
Only a temporary divide
One day, they will be
Always and faithfully,
Again, side by side
As she lies down in the grass
Knowing soon she will pass
And say this, never more true:
"My dearest, I love you."

Really emotional poetry. This type of faithfulness is almost rare nowadays. Definitely being a person like her after losing life partner not an easy task at all.
Thanks for nice poetry :)
