You Came Back (Poetry)

in #poem6 years ago

You left me in the wilderness
I fed my heart to the wolves
I wandered through the forest
The branches tore my clothes

Your absence was a winter
Death between the trees
The grass did not grow there
No birds rustled the leaves

But deep in that forest
When you had left me alone
I found his light so bright
I finally felt at home

He led me through the thicket
The thorns ripped at my skin
My blood smeared the foliage
But all I saw was him

The scent became a howl
A plea I never meant to make
I loved the light that guided me
To the depths of heartbreak

There the wolves they descended
Returning me to the pack
A blood red moon rose for us
And finally, you came back
