How much plastic is recycled in the world each year?

Production of plastic didn't really get under way on large scale untill around sixty years ago,now there are billions of tons of the stuff as rubbish polluting the oceans and landfill on average taking 500 years to decompose, with only 91% being recycled ,however this trend is changing ,According to PlasticsEurope, 7.7 million tons of plastics were recycled globally in 2013, 1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours!plasticky fantasticky !!
