Coelogyne speciosa or Wooly Lipgrass becomes one of Indonesia's beautiful orchids. His name and fame is less than his brother, the Black Orchid (Coelogyne pandurata), even the Hairy Little Orchid seems less well known in Indonesia. Whereas the Hairy Lip Orchid (Coelogyne speciosa) became one of the proof of exoticism and beauty of orchids native to Indonesia.

The feathered orchid has the scientific name of Coelogyne Speciosa. Obviously why this flower is called orchid lips hairy, yes because this flower has a lips covered with fur and it is his own characteristic.

Coelogyne speciosa is an epiphytic orchid. Life is attached to the trunk or branches of a large tree. The trunk forms a pseudobulb (pseudobulb) with a round shape of about 6 cm long and 2 cm in diameter. The pseudo-bulb is clustered and has 1 or 2 leaves. The leaf itself is elongated with a pointed tip.

Complex Coelogyne speciosa orchid with zigzag-shaped stalk with protective leaves. Flowers have a typical labellum or lips, large, dense, uneven, and hairy. The base color of the labellum is white to light green, with brown in the middle, and white on the edges.

The Hairy Lip Orchid grows naturally in the tropical rain forest from low to high altitudes. Regional spread is quite wide ranging from Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, to the islands of Nusa Tenggara. In Indonesia, at least three subspecies of this orchid are known:

• Coelogyne speciosa subsp. fimbriata, found alive on the island of Sumatra.

• Coelogyne speciosa subsp. incarnata, found alive on the islands of Sumatra and Java.

• Coelogyne speciosa subsp. speciosa, live on the island of Java, to Flores (Nusa Tenggara).

This beautiful orchid allegedly still lives in the wild so it is not listed in the IUCN Red List conservation status. But as with all other orchid species, the Hairy Orchid or Coelogyne speciosa is listed as Appendix II CITES species. In Indonesia, these orchids do not include protected orchids.
