There are a number of users, uploading interesting and quality content to Steemit, every day.
The ‘Life’ and ‘Art’ tags, are just two of the ever-growing Categories, which allow independent artists and writers to share their original work with the world.
Unfortunately, there are allot of us out there, who are inadvertently, hiring the chances of plagiarism, by failing to provide any links, to sources of information...

Why is ‘Misinformation’ hurting the Steemit Community?
The absence of sources in posts, is increasing the chances of mis-information across the website. Providing the link to a source, is the only form of proof we have as creators, to validate the information we present.
Facts an figures SHOULD NOT be taken as Gospel... It is in our interest as Steemit users, to question the unknown, in order to have a better understanding, of what is FACT and what is FICTION... After all, facts are only factual, when proven...
Why shouldn't Steemit allow Plagiarism?
Other than the fact that it is morally indecent to steal peoples work, it is also viewed as ‘wrong’ for users to be able to make money, with very little effort involved. While most Steemians are sacrificing hours of their valuable time to produce top content, the remaining few are simply copying and pasting information and claiming it as their own.
Although there is nothing wrong with sampling facts and photos from the internet, a list of sources can be a useful, to prevent the ‘wrong person’ from receiving credit for someone else's work.

Why should we be using sources for photos?-
There are many of us out there (myself included) who are forgetting to name their sources for photos. It may seem like a tedious process, however, if a picture doesn't belong to us, we have a responsibility to correctly identify the ownership of the photo.
It is easy to forget about this process, however in some cases, people can be quick to assume, that the photos you have included, belong to you.
How does this affect our Content Creators?
For Photographers and Life bloggers, the use of photos and images, are usually the ‘main focus’ of their posts. After spending hours of precious time on their work, It can be frustrating for these users, to receive a lack off attention, while other posts gain popularity for ‘copied’ content. This means we should all take care, before judging the ‘originality’ of the post in question. It is down to the individual-user to determine wether or not the post is worthy of an up-vote.

How do we stop plagiarism from happening on Steemit?
If more of us included links to our sources, it would prove harder for plagiarizers to copy content, directly from other websites, without consequence. Depending on the nature of the post, a list of Sources may be all it takes, to allow users to determine if the content is original or not.
If you believe that a post is plagiarized, copying and pasting a section of the text in to a search engine, will automatically reveal the origins of the content in question...

In conclusion, there is nothing wrong with sharing content that doesn't belong to us... However, it is very wrong for users to upload content, while claiming it to be theirs. There are thousands of amazing, though provoking posts out there, which are unmistakably deserving of your up-vote.
As of recently, I have made it my priority, to start using sources whenever necessary, as I believe everyone is entitled to some form of proof, to validate the facts and figures within a post.
I hope this post has highlighted some of the positive affects that the use of ‘Sourcing’ will have on the Steemit community.

I will strive to do this. I assumed my images already have the URL for where I got them. Though I saw cases where it looked like they might actually be converted by steemit. If this is true then it makes sense to add an additional link for where it came from.
I did the same thing in my earlier posts, until I realised there is no way of linking to the original page through the picture itself. (At least not to my knowledge). Thanks for the comment.
Great Post! Thanks. Since a lot of the Steemit.com community is encouraging "original content" I think that users could easily assume that with no source the person posting the content is claiming it as theirs.
In all honesty if someone cites a source for a photo I don't even look to see if it is copyrighted. I think users should try to use sites that have Public Domain images but I'm not going to try to track down the source of an image that is posted on a 100 sites or more.
I'd appreciate it if users stopped putting photos in #photography that aren't theirs unless they are discussing the photo or photographer. Same thing with art most of the time. Ahh. but that's off topic.
I agree, pictures aren't as important to list for sources. It's highly unlikely that the owner of the sourced photos will stumble across their work on a random Steemit post. I do sometimes wonder what it would feel like to see someone make money from my images or songs. Giving credit to the artist may be the difference between a copyright lawsuit. Dramatic, but somewhat possible. Thanks for the comment
Not sure if I'm misunderstanding you or you misunderstood me. I think it is important to list sources for photos. I just don't check to see if the photo is Public Domain or is under copyright.
It is possible. I had an acquaintance that won several lawsuits over copyright infringement.
What I'm trying to say is, the majority of people don't include sources for their pictures, so it's hardly seen as an important problem on steemit. Misinforming people, by posting facts without sources is where the issue is, in my eyes. If you have time to check the plagiarism tag, there have been some great discussions going on that raise allot of good points.
