I agree with @finnian. Why can't information just be released? It was the same with the Snowdon (fake) leaks and pretty much everything Wikipedia releases. It comes out in dribs and drabs so that people have time to redact damaging info or whatever crappy excuse they come up with.
Just release the bloody information rather than try to build people up and try to get an audience. If the information is as damaging and there is proof as Swordfish says then it should have been released in as many places as possible in it's entirely for the world to see. In this case, I'll be surprised if we ever get to see the evidence or find out who the super famous artist is but of course I will be constantly checking for the next 12 hours in case something actually does happen.
O see some merit in first giving them the opportunity to step forward themselves prior to info being released- I mean who would even try to debunk a confession. At the same time I don't think it's smart to announce and then not disclose immediately- that tends to end up with the leaker suicided.
