Another church! This time from Butterwick
I'm not sure I have too many more photos of churches to share. Was that a sigh of relief I just heard?
Here's a photo of St Andrews Church in Butterwick, a small village in Lincolnshire. What I find interesting is the church dates back to around 1300 but is of brick construction. I've always thought of brick as more modern material; most churches I see are made of stone. The doomsday book tells of the existence of a Saxon church, the Saxon period covering over 600 years from 410 - 1066.
The tower was built in 1714 so other amendments may have been made which explain the materials used.

Nice little secondary tower on that one. I assume there must have been craftsmen who travelled the country building churches. They were obviously good at is as they are still standing.
