Bird Watching
Thanks to @etcmike
I was given this humming bird feeder a bit ago, and just been procrastinating on hanging it up. Well, the last couple of days I saw @etcmike had been posting on his bird watching. Well, I do not know much about birds, I also have not had a bird feeder up so I could not join in this time. Well, that got me to thinking about setting up the feeder I do have. I know I'm no bird expert, and this may not be the right time of year at all, but anyway I decided to give it a go, I got my humming bird feeder out, followed the directions that came with it.
So, I boiled 1 cup of water and added 1/4 cup sugar to the water. Waited until it cooled off, having the spot to hang it all picked out, I know it also may not be the best spot. But it will be better there than not having the feeder hung up. This kind of feeder is nice because there is a spot you can fill with water to keep the ants from taking over the feeder. Another trick I have seen my mom use to preventing ants on other bird feeders is to hang them up with fishing line.
All set and ready to go outside! I picked hanging this in the driveway right out the front door as this is the safest and best location I have for the bird humming bird feeder.
Outside hanging, hope this will start to attract the humming birds.
I'm not great at picture taking, but I am making an attempt to learn photography. The first picture of the bird came from wikimedia, the rest of the pictures I took with a Nikon D5100.
Steem On!
Thanks to @papa-pepper!
What region of the world do you live in? Some parts of the US have hummingbirds all year, but others don't. There are so many birds that will come into visit one kind of feeder or another. Congratulations on your start of watching and feeding birds!
Thank you, I live in the desert in Arizona so I think we have humming birds year round.
Oh yeah, you will be all set, then. I commuted between Oregon and Arizona for a number of years and really enjoyed all the hummingbirds down there! You will have fun watching them!
They're awesome to watch :)
Enjoy!
I hope so, I hope they starting coming soon. But only day 1.
It is a good feeling to have inspired another Steemian :-)
I am the furthest thing from a bird expert. I have a few bird books to help me and I do use the internet to research the identify of birds too.
My background is physics. My Mom got me interested in bird watching. The first year I had a feeder out it was hardly visited at all. It certainly saved on bird feed that year. The point is don't be discouraged sometimes it takes a while to attract birds. For humming birds, it does help to have flowers they may visit nearby to attract them to your feeder.
I wish you good fortunes,
Steem on,
Mike
Well, I guess next I need some flower pots and flowers if this does not work. Thank you for the tip.
I like your idea, I live in country and see lots of different birds come threw. Maybe I'll build something similar to see birds closer.
Would be awesome to see the pics when you get it all built and start getting the birds.

Sharp pictures man, really nice work. I have always found those birds neat. Oh and I found this minor sp. mistake you may want to fix....
" Another tick I have seen my mom use to preventing ants on other bird feeders is to hang them up with fishing line. "
Thank you for the help, I never did well at spelling. And the first pic I wash was mine of the bird, Sorry if it was misleading, that came from Wikimedia. I added the image source underneath, but now realizing that might have been missed.
Yes, I read that post twice trying to figure out what I missed, LOL! TY for the clarification -- I am tired, running out of ....STEEM fast now, it is after 11 pm here, have a good day/nite wherever you are brother.
Have a good night yourself as well.
Excellent post my friend @smysullivan, I see that he likes birds and hummingbirds, here in my town there are countless birds some more beautiful than others. Not to mention the trinar, exotic melodies. Congratulations on your passion.
