Garage Sale – We have it all!

in #photography7 years ago

Sometimes as a diver and photographer you want something easy, something fun. Something that isn’t to challenging of a dive, China Creek is that place.

This story will be written in two parts due to the dives that can be done at this site. Part one today and part two will be posted shortly after. There is some pretty heart retching history to this little dive site and that will be documented in part two.

China Creek in Port Alberni BC has two exceptional dives that are both easily accessed from a beautiful beach with southern exposure with in the provincial camp ground. You can drive in for the day, or camp overnight.

Diving along the wall to the left of the beach is quite an adventure. There is plenty to see for marine life. Yelloweye Rockfish, sea stars and the occasional octopus fill the water column and dot the walls as you swim along.

However the most interesting things are definitely what remain of the human impact on the area.

It’s like a garage sale down there. We have boats, bed frames, logging supplies and even if you need to call E.T. or change into your change Superman outfit there is a phone booth for you!

I’ve written before about the impact we as humans have on the worlds oceans and the trash that in discarded into them, but this is a lighter hearted look at how some stuff just is comical when you come across it swimming in 60 ft. of water.

Diving should be fun, and sometimes you just have to laugh just a little about what you see when your down there.

Continued in part two.

Thanks for reading
