Common hibiscus is a flowering plant species belonging to the Malvaceae family widely cultivated for its large vibrant and showy blooms native to tropical and subtropical regions it thrives in warm climates and is often grown as an ornamental shrub or small tree the plant typically reaches heights of 2 to 4 meters with glossy dark green ovate leaves and trumpet-shaped flowers that can span 10 to 15 centimeters in diameter the flowers exhibit a wide range of colors including red pink yellow orange and white often with contrasting throats and prominent central staminal columns.

Blooming throughout much of the year in suitable climates the hibiscus requires full sun well-drained fertile soil and regular watering though it is somewhat drought-tolerant once established it is sensitive to frost and best grown in USDA hardiness zones 9 to 11 propagation is commonly done through stem cuttings to maintain desired traits as seeds may produce variable offspring in addition to its ornamental value common hibiscus has cultural significance in many countries being used in festivals religious ceremonies.
