Sunset Photography Tips - Twilight Hour in Pacific Beach, San Diego

Wanna step up your sunset images? Here are two simple tips for photographing sunsets.

First tip is to always wait at least 15-30 minutes 'after' the sunset. This is called the twilight hour. Once the sun has gone down, the sky continues to change colors and open up. Just waiting ten minutes can give you another opportunity for a great image.

Second tip when shooting during twilight is with a long exposure. This will separate your sunset images from all the others. You will need a tripod or something to keep the camera very still or you will get blurry results.

This image was a 15 second exposure on a tripod and it made all the waves glassy and smooth.

The length of your exposure time will vary depending on how much available light there is. Every situation will be different, the best way to learn is by experimenting. I learned everything from trial and error. The more you experiment, the more familiar you will be with your camera equipment and the better photographer you will become.

So next time, while everyone immediately leaves after the sun dips into the horizon. Stick around with the all the photographers and give it a try.

I hope this helped and I'm looking forward to seeing your results.

This is one of the most attractive night photos captured that I have seen today. Absolutely stunning and catches the nice reflecting light off of the water quite well. Thank you for sharing and inspiring. You are a skilled photographer. Upvoted.
