A Path in Spring
Beneath the arch of branching, bare,
A path of darkness, old and worn,
Where tender petals, light as air,
Are on the gentle breezes born.
The city sleeps on either side,
A silent witness to the spring,
As fleeting moments softly glide,
And branches burst in blossoming.
The shadows lengthen on the ground,
A fading sun's last, golden light,
As silence settles all around,
And day surrenders to the night.
The cherry blossoms, pale and frail,
Stand out against the wintery wood,
A whisper in the coming gale,
A promise, half misunderstood.
The path invites the soul to roam,
Through seasons past and yet to be,
A place to feel a sense of home,
Beneath the budding cherry tree.
Each twisted trunk and ancient root,
Holds stories of the years gone by,
As if to yield some fragile fruit,
A whisper to the open sky.
And so the path continues on,
Beyond the reach of eye or mind,
A fleeting, fragile, perfect dawn,
A memory the heart can find.
For though the blossoms soon must fall,
And pavement feels the weary tread,
The beauty holds the soul in thrall,
A silent promise, softly said.

@puncakbukit, what a beautiful and evocative poem! The imagery of the cherry blossoms against the "wintery wood" is particularly striking, and the way you've captured the fleeting nature of beauty is really well done. The closing stanza is perfect!
