FISHING OSPREY

_TEP9569.jpg

This caption of a osprey catching a fish took me several years to get.
I took a LOT of planning and patience, but it pay'd off in the end :)
First I built a nest for the ospreys on a small island outside my cabin, and luckily; the next year they ditched their old nest and moved into their new home :)

So now I can sit on my porch and watch the ospreys and study their behavioure. This gave me a lot of valuable information, and i was able to learn their favorite fishing spots so that I knew where I had to wait for them to come fishing, so I could get my shot :)

This shows my cabin and where i built the nest.

This photo was also taken from my homemade floating hide.

This hide is amazing, and the birds does not react to it at all. Even if I get up very close, they show no signs of stress or change in behaviour.
It is very satisfying to be so close up and personal with wildlife, and still feal completely invisible, knowing that the wildlife is not beeing stressed or disturbed in any way :)

Here is a few photos of the hide without the camouflage on:

My camera equipment for the day; Nikon D850 on a 500mm f4, and my old workhorse ; Nikon D3s, as backup.

I use a small electric motor for the transport across to the first island. In the beginning I used diving fins and swam across, but the fins makes more noise and a lot more movement on the hide.
The electric motor is a lot more quiet, the hide moves a lot smoother and quiet, and it is a lot faster! :)

ikke dumt å ha en camo flåte!
