Pow Wow

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

If you don't live in North America you don't have a clue what this is. You can't connect it with anything specific, it's just a funny word.

Like flip-flops for instance or something similar.

But behind these two short words, you can find centuries of history.

It's an amazing atmosphere. A mixture of colors, drum beating, and singing. You can feel a strange energy floating in the air.

At least that was my experience at this event.

Here are some details from Wikipedia:

A modern pow wow is a specific type of event for Native American people to meet and dance, sing, socialize and honor their cultures. Pow wows may be private or public. There is generally a dancing competition, with many different types of traditional dances, music, and regalia, often with significant prize money awarded. Pow wows vary in length from a one-day event to major pow wows called for a special occasion which can be up to one week long.

Tired and hungry.

There is not much to comment on these photos. They speak for themselves.

And most of them are blurry.

Sorry about that, but it's difficult to get a good shot because they are in the move most of the time.

If you ever visit Nort America do the planning right and don't miss Pow wow out.

Enjoy your Sunday if you still have some left.

Sorry for the obsessive advertising. It is necessary to earn.

They are very expensive too.

So funny to see this pictures because it remains me of my stay in nort America. I decipate on one of this pow-wow. I nearly lost my camera because I took some pictures. An old indian came too mee and said I were not allowed to take pictures during sermonies because they believed they could loose their souls then. I m suprised you got to take so many pictures. No problems here. Maybe because it was a public event. Not sure.

Yes that could be the reason.

An image is worth more than a thousand words, the event as such should make the adrenaline explode, between bright colors and the music of the rumble of the drum together with the feathers, accessories and fantasies of each costume, it goes back to history while we scrutinize in the culture of our ancestors, the photos I like, very good publication to enjoy on a Sunday, greetings @oldtimer

Drum rumble and singing is a really deep experience.

It has been years since I attended a pow-wow, even though there is one every summer about 25 miles from where I live. I really ought to check one out next year!

It's good to refresh your memories from time to time.
