The Green Tomb of the Ottoman Empire

in #photography3 months ago

A few days back I shared the story of Green Mosque and next to the mosque is the building of the Tombs of Sultans Osman and Orhan and their family from the Ottoman Empire. Well, when I visited the place, honestly I was not very keen on knowing too much history of it, but the art and architecture of the place fascinated me a lot. To think of it, the royals of those days not only consumed a lot of resources but a lot of space also. Imagine a house which is only for their tombs. It was their way of life, senseless and mindless, this is what I believe. Not only for them but for all the Monarchs this has been the case, a few people use up so much of everything. It's not that the people of our generation are doing very great with it, especially the ones on top of the pyramid, but still it cannot be compared to what it was a few centuries ago.

Coming back to the Tomb, it was built in 1421 by the 5th Ottoman Sultan Mehmet. He had not got it built for himself but he died in 40 days of completion of this building and then was eventually buried here along with his wife and children. Again this place is also built using a lot of green in it and hence it is called the Green Tomb.

The big main tomb is of the Sultan and then the smaller ones are of his family.

The walls and ceilings are decorated with fine designs of that time.

There are holy inscriptions on the main tombs

The designs on the wall makes this place look very attractive

That's the entrance of the tomb. From the outside it looks very simple and ordinary and nothing fancy.
