Wonders of the sea, the pygmee seahorse

in #photography7 years ago

The pygmee seahorse, as it's name suggest, is one of the smallest seahorse species.
The seahorse is about 1 centimeter long.
The pygmee seahorse is undoubtedly one of the most well camouflaged species in the ocean.
The seahorse is extremely difficult to spot among the gorgonian coral it inhabits.
You can find this little creatures in the Indo-West pacific.

The seahorse was accidentally dicovered by a scientist. He was studying the big sea fans, gorgonian coral, and suddenly he discovered this small animal.

We were lucky to have an excellent dive guide in Bali, Indonesia 5 years ago. He showed us a pygmee seahorse, after extensive searching in the gorgonian coral with his torch. So special.

Last year, we were diving in Bali again. This time our guide was a young boy with little experience.
While we examined the coral with our torches, he looked at us what we were doing for god's sake.
He was surprised when we show him the seahorse.
It was so great to see the pymee seahorse again.
