[ENG-SPN] Lands of Gomara: Yesterday and Today / Tierras de Gómara: el ayer y el hoy

Not even its proximity to Almazán, a prominent town where history places the final confrontation between Pedro I the Cruel and his illegitimate brother, Enrique de Trastamara, can prevent the once-proud land of Gomara, the fiefdom of one of the most influential and powerful families of that Numantian Soria that witnessed remarkable events, from languishing at the mercy of the fever inherent in the passage of its worst enemy: time.

In its once flourishing fields, it is now the thistle, among other invasive forests, that surrounds many villages once smitten by silence, and the wind, that eternal white-gloved thief, swept away doors and windows after its cruel breath returned the clay of their roofs to dust.

But not everything is oblivion and desolation. Still, in people whose pride is the best resilience, the bewildered traveler can find, in that still, which, according to Borges's cosmogony, is the Trinitarian companion of yesterday and today, priceless fragments of that metaphorical Library of Babel, which, referring to memory, is, without a doubt, its historical, artistic, and cultural heritage.

Ni siquiera su cercanía a Almazán, villa sobresaliente donde la Historia sitúa el último enfrentamiento entre Pedro I el Cruel y su hermano bastardo, Enrique de Trastámara puede evitar que la antaño orgullosa tierra de Gómara, feudo de una de las familias más influyentes y poderosas de aquella Soria numantina que fue testigo de acontecimientos sobresalientes, languidezca a merced de la fiebre consustancial del paso de su peor enemigo: el tiempo.

En sus otrora florecientes campos, es ahora el cardo, entre otras florestas invasoras, quien pone cerco a muchos pueblos sobre los que un día se abatió el silencio y el viento, ese eterno ladrón de guante blanco, se llevó puertas y ventanas después de que su soplo cruel devolviera al polvo la arcilla de sus tejados.

Pero no todo es olvido y desolación y todavía, en los pueblos cuyo orgullo es la mejor resiliencia, el desconcertado viajero puede encontrar, en ese todavía, que, según la cosmogonía de Borges, es el trinitario compañero del ayer y del hoy, fragmentos inestimables de esa metafórica biblioteca de Babel, que, referida a la memoria, es, sin duda alguna, su patrimonio histórico, artístico y cultural.
