Mobile Photo Series #6: Immersive Forest in Black and White

The magic of Black and White

Hi fellow steemians! Today I show you a picture I recently captured while on a stroll through the forest near Mersch, Luxembourg. As the title of this series already reveals, this photograph was captured with a mobile phone. Forests are a overall critical subject of photography, since it is often very difficult to create a good balance between contrast, light and details. Your results thus do not only depend on the photographer, but often times on the capacity of your camera. I for one find myself puzzled by the outcome of this picture, as you usually find yourself seeing either mushy and flat images or the complete opposite, over-sharpened and grainy pictures mad by phones. This is simply because you can't fit that many pixels into a small phone case and so most manufacturers decide to give their mobile camera more pixels at the expense of the pixel size. As you see on the picture below however, there are ways to compensate this. Using the Snapseed app by Google, I was able to add some depth to the rather flat Iphone source material and even gain control of the details.

Hopefully I motivate some of you reading this to start looking through your phone, rather just at it ;)
