Photography: Hiking the Virgin Islands

There is nothing like getting up early in the morning on Saint Croix to take a hike during sunrise on the East End of the island. It is all mostly a protected, untouched national park. Beautiful, clean, quiet and dog friendly. (As long as you bring a leash). With multiple trails to take depending what you are in the mood for, but no matter which trail you choose the views are absolutely breath taking.

This morning a friend and I took her puppy to hike from Grapetree to Point Udall, Point Udall is the eastern most point of the US, the hike is roughly 3 miles each way and takes just under two hours.

The entire time we were hiking we only ran into one other person on the path. Something else that keeps me in Saint Croix, it is not unusual to be in a beach or a beautiful hiking area and see little to no people. There’s something about being alone in such a beautiful untouched paradise that speaks to my soul. A little solitude in these kind of atmospheres can do a lot to rejuvenate the spirit and when you do run into someone it’s almost always a friendly interaction. I believe the island brings the best out of people.

The only way to continue enjoying prestine, untouched, wild, breathtaking places such as these we have to continue becoming more conscious of the choices we make every day with waste.
