What a view! — ¡Que panorama!

Howdy! ¡Muy Buenas!

Today, I was up at the Mayo Clinic's Gonda building (not for me this time!) and had the opportunity to take a few photos from a couple different levels. Long ago, I had a temporary position in the Eisenburg (no, not Isengard) building during construction of the upper floors at the Gonda. During my morning break, around 8:00 AM, I would go up to those floors and look out over the city. The glass windows hadn't been installed, and the breeze and view were amazing! These days it's possible to bring a camera, but the glass is a little more difficult to work with.

Every elevator stop has a piece of art in front of the bowed part of the building. Much of these are donated by patients or benefactors and well displayed. The result is that Mayo has a lot of very nice art and sculpture throughout its campus. Waiting in a hospital is never fun, but art helps.

Here, I realized how much Rochester had grown in the last decade or so. Although it is still a small city, it looks more and more like a larger one.

Rochester Carillon

The Rochester Carillon, atop Mayo's Plummer Building is a historic landmark. City planners allowed Mayo to grow up above it, so the building has gone from prominent city icon to hidden gem status, a grave mistake in my opinion. If building height had been limited to several stories below, the city would be much more beautiful for it.

A carillon is more or less a piano that plays bells instead of strings. The Rochester carillon master plays daily at noon.

Well, tomorrow I'll be back for a checkup to see how my shoulder is recovering from the removal of the bar and screws that held it together for a year.

Cheers!

¡Muchas gracias!

Interesting views and another good story from you @fotosdenada. Upvoted, resteemed & DPS.

Thanks! Finding some photos sure beats sitting in a chair for a couple hours, even if the view is spectacular. :-)

I gotta get up to that building! It's nice to see Rochester in this way.

I typically avoid the clinic, but they do have some spectacular views and art. The new (ish) Gonda has amazing views. When I worked there, I used to have to be in at 5AM in the 15th (highest complete) floor of that building once a week and the view of the carillon was breathtaking. It was one of the tallest buildings in town, back then, and caught those first rays of deep red light as the sun crested the distant hills. It was, by far, the best part of that job :-)

Last photo is great good angle, I love when old buildings get renovated!

Thanks! It really is a fascinating building. I may ask if they'll let me up in the carillon for photos, sometime, but they're a little restrictive about such things. I got to go up about twenty years ago while it was played. Loud, but amazing!

great captures bud, hope your checkup goes well!

Thanks! It went well and I hope that I'm done with the whole broken clavicle chapter.
